Lychnis Chalcedonica maltese cross flower 2 litre pot

Also known as Maltese Cross or Jerusalem Cross, due to its cross-shaped flowers, which are borne all summer.  It is native to Russia but was thought to be brought to Britain by the Knights of Malta.  It is incredibly hardy and tough.  The flowers are really dazzling bright scarlet-orange on very sturdy stems with bright green leaves.  This Lychnis is a great plant for pollinating insects.  It also makes an excellent cut-flower in an established clump.  Like all of our perennials is will set seed and can also be divided in the springtime.
