Ajuga Reptans ‘Carpet Bugle’ – 2 Litre pot

Bugle is Ajuga reptans and is a native Wildflower in the UK;  blooming in the springtime, it is often seen in damp grasslands, scrub, woodland clearings, heathland, moorland, farmland, and towns and gardens.

Bugle is a nectar source for many insects, including white-tailed bumblebees, green-veined white butterflies, Silver Y moths, and common carder bees, so we feel it is very important to plant them.  However, as they are somewhat small and often unnoticed we would like to introduce you to the Garden Cultivated version of this native plant as  “Catlins Giant” which is the same plant but much larger giving much more impact with its dark purple/bronzy leaves.

Bugle prefers cool conditions, damp soil that doesn’t dry out, and light, dappled shade. It dislikes full sun and deep shade.

When you’re looking for something attractive to quickly fill in a large area, then you can’t go wrong with ajuga (Ajuga reptans), this creeping (mostly) evergreen plant quickly fills in empty areas, smothering out weeds while adding exceptional foliage colour and blooms. It’s also good for erosion control.

Ajuga reptans is an herbaceous flowering plant, in the mint family, it has dark green leaves with purple highlights. It is a spreading and dense ground cover. The leaves grow 5–8 cm (2.0–3.1 in) tall, but in the spring it sends up 10–15 cm (3.9–5.9 in) tall flower stalks bearing many purple flowers.
