Ceanothus ‘Pugets Blue’, Autumnal Blue or “Concha” 3 litre
We simply had to stock some ceanothus, the bees adore it and when the sun comes out and the bees feed the whole shrub moves very noisily with all the buzzing….
We are stocking 3 types of Ceanothus, and maybe unable to specify what is available at any one time, we love Puget Blue’ is a medium-sized evergreen shrub of upright habit, with small, dark green, narrow leaves. Tight clusters of flowers deep rich blue in conical or oblong panicles, in late spring and early summer.
Autumnal Blue is again, a bushy, evergreen shrub to 9 feet (if left unpruned) in height, with glossy, finely toothed, bright green leaves to 5cm long. Large, lateral panicles of sky-blue flowers to 8cm long.
Ceanothus Concha; as large as 9 feet with Arching growth – not compact at all but with the same gorgeous Blue flowers.
Prune these immediately after flowering, using secateurs to cut back long, flowered shoots by one-third to a half. If needed, you can lightly trim these plants again in late summer.
Water when needed, although Ceanothus WILL NOT tolerate soggy wet soil – they cannot cope with this and will de-stabilise and rot, even if they have developed into a large tree like structure.
