Chives – 2 litre pot
The herb garden is not complete without this versatile herb, with the onion flavoured leaves and flowers used in many culinary dishes.
- Edible leaves and flowers
- Rich in iron
- Easy to maintain
- Long lasting
A really easy herb to grow, hardy chive is happy in most soils and with a mixture of shade and sun. It is a great one for containers and window boxes growing into a large clump – perfect for division. Keep harvesting the leaves throughout the year, the flowers when they arrive will slow leaf production but can be eaten too – just cut them off if you would prefer more leaves for culinary use. I would encourage you to grow them for the pollinators too as they support them in your garden whenever their little lollipop flowers appear.
Its onion scent deters carrot fly, the carrot fly can smell carrots from up to a mile away! so to plant chives in your allotment or kitchen garden can really help deter these pests.
