Salvia – Uliginosa Sage – 5 litre pot – Available from Mid-July
Salvia UGILINOSA is unfortunately given the name Bog Salvia – which to me is just another way of saying that this plant likes moisture – I don’t think that they are literally bog plants as I have known them to rot off in a cold winter – so moist soil yes – wet and cold definitely not! If you plant this gorgeous Tall Salvia in a hot sunny spot they do cope very well, but are not quite so tall, just as if you pinch them out when young or early in the year they will also become bushier and less tall. The possibilities of having Beautiful Baby Blue as a complete show stopper in the border are endless – I do like to see this growing very tall and elegant.
This moisture-loving hardy salvia produces clear blue flowers with white highlights in late summer to mid-autumn. It forms an airy clump to 6 feet tall by 3 feet wide, and is great for the back of a border. It is tolerant of heavy soils, butterflies love it too. Salvia Ugilinosa can show to be evergreen too, so in mild areas it really is a must have plant.
As with all salvia, cuttings are easy peasy!
